Waynesville, Inez Locust Chandler, age 64, passed away very unexpectedly and suddenly, Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Swain County, she resided in Haywood County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Hazel Ashe Locust and was preceded in death by four sisters, Rosa Lee Locust, Leona Goodson, Joyce Reece, Linda Gail Williams and a son- in- law William Rollins who passed away December 4, 2008. She worked for Dr. Bill and Sandra Owen for 32 years and Dr. Lisa Verges for 17 years. Inez lived her life through her faith, actions and relationships with others. She loved to travel and listen to blue grass music with her husband. Inez also enjoyed gardening, especially working in her flowers and spending time at Clark Hill Lake. Her family was the most important part of her life; she was a very devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and was very proud of her Native American heritage. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Starlie R. Chandler, retired carpenter; two daughters, Karen Chandler and her partner, Gary Gunter, of Waynesville and Sherrie Rollins, of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Annie Pearl Rogers, of Cashiers and Birdell Edwards, of Balsam; two grandchildren, Audrey Banks and Christian Russell and one great grandchild, Katelyn Graham. Inez had a special bond with the Owen and Verges families especially their children, Erin, Chris and Willliam Owen and Daniel and Melanie Verges whom she helped in numerous ways. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be William and Christopher Owen, Wayne and Juan Edwards, Daniel Verges, Eric Lambert, David Buchanan and Tony Cope.
