Irene Ballard

Asheville, Evelyn Irene Moore Ballard, age 84, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center. Irene was a native and resident of Buncombe County most of her life and was the daughter of the late Hampton Monroe and Mabel Florence Taylor Moore. She and her husband founded Ballard Appliance Company in Asheville where she served as Vice President and Treasurer for 57 years. Irene enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. Irene also enjoyed decorating and was a wonderful cook and baker. Irene is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rex E. Ballard; a daughter, Rexann Ballard and her partner, Randy L. Brue, of Durham; two sisters, Alice Moore of Asheville and Doris Warren and her husband, Fred, of Columbia, South Carolina; a niece, Marcia McIntosh and her husband, Ed, of Columbia; and a nephew, Russ Warren, also of Columbia. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Green Hills Cemetery with Reverend Andy McDevitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to services at Erwin Hills Baptist Church, 281 New Leicester Highway, Asheville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
