Irene Mashburn

Irene Messer Mashburn, age 70, born on December 8, 1942 of the Dix Creek Community passed away only four days prior to her 71st birthday on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Alma Harvey Messer. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Velma Farmer; two brothers, Sherrill and Pless Messer and an infant brother. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Irene was a special lady who loved her family dearly especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for always placing others before herself. Irene enjoyed spending time in her garden and one of her favorite things was to can the fruits of her labor. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jesse Mashburn; two sons, Harold Mashburn and his wife, Linda, and Roger Mashburn all of Canton; three brothers, Carroll Messer and his wife, Joan, Lonnie Messer and his wife, Linda, and Benny Messer and his wife, Margaret, all of the Bethel Community; six grandchildren, Will, Tesa, Cody, Tony, Brandon, and Daniel Mashburn; a great granddaughter, McKenna Brown; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Jack Holland and Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Harold and Linda Mashburn, 1254 Pisgah Drive, Canton.
