IRENE B. MESSER

Waynesville-Irene B. Messer, age 80, of Fox Run Road, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Zadie Burgess. She was the wife of the late Nathan Richard Messer, who died in 1994. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Green of Waynesville and Linda Messer of Maiden, NC; one son, Richard Messer and his wife Janet of Waynesville; one sister, Myrtle Hannah of Salem, NJ; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Jason Ledford will officiate. Burial will be at Messer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of the son, Richard Messer, 29 Jaynes Cove Road, Waynesville.

The pallbearers will be Jamie Williams, Charles Messer, Bobby Beasley, Terry Haney, Jr., Teddy Rose, and Jason Deal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 932, Waynesville, NC 28786.
