Irma Hughes

Waynesville, Irma Kartarius Hughes, 80, died on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Smokey Mountain Heath Care. She was a native of Germany and the daughter of the late Rupert and Johanna Nicbergall Kartarius and was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn Hughes, and a grandson, Jimmy Hughes. Irma will always be remembered for her gentle and kind spirit. She found good in everything and everybody. Her greatest treasure in life, was and will forever be, her beautiful family. She is survived by a daughter, Caroline McKinnish, and her husband, Tim, of Talbot, Tennessee; two sons, James D. Hughes, Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Valrico, Florida, and Jerome Hughes and his wife, Yevette, of Canton; a sister, Ilse Hooper of Waynesville; four brothers, Emil, Kurt, Herman, and Hans Kartarius all of Germany; six grandchildren, Teresa, Whitney, and Jaden Hughes, Shantel Hale, Quintin and Abby McKinnish; and four great-grandchildren, Camden, Kylee, Kristin, and Kathrin. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in the Wells Events & Reception Center and the family will receive friends one hour prior at the reception center. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Smokey Mountain Healthcare and Four Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care of Irma.
