Canton, Iva Lee Mathis, 88, of 44 Holland Road, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Pless Matthews. She was also preceded in death by one son, Tony Mathis; and one sister, Betty Queen. Iva Lee was a homemaker whose joy was cooking and taking care of her family. Her grandson and great grandchildren where the joy of her life. She was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church, however attended Plains United Methodist Church when she was able. Iva Lee was a resident of Silver Bluff Village for the past eight years where she grew to love all her caregivers and their families, especially their children. Iva Lee is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Mathis, a resident of Arrowhead Cove; one son, Kermit Mathis (Karen), of Roxboro, North Carolina; one grandson, Kelly Mathis (Amy); three great grandchildren, McKenna, Colby and Reagan Mathis, of Benson, North Carolina. The Mathis family gives special thanks to the Silver Bluff staff for all the love and care given to her. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in the chapel at Silver Bluff Village.
