Waynesville, Jarvis Linton Palmer, Jr., age 77, of 90 Palmer Hill Drive, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was born in the Cataloochee Valley and had lived in Haywood County his entire life. He was the son of the late Jarvis Linton Palmer, Sr. and Velma Childers Palmer and was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret P. Boyd. He was a 1951 graduate of Waynesville Township High School, and also a graduate of North Carolina State University and the North Carolina School of Banking. He began his banking career of 36 years at First Union National Bank, which culminated as vice president of commercial loans upon his retirement. Linton was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where he served as a Trustee and was instrumental in organizing the Faith Sunday-School Class. He was also a member and past president of the Waynesville Rotary Club, past chairman and board member of Haywood Regional Medical Center, project chairman for the Haywood Regional Medical Center Health and Fitness Center during its construction, and a member of the Rhododendron Society. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Crawford Palmer; one son, Dr. Bert Palmer and his wife, Carol, of Kinston, NC; a daughter, Pam P. Noland and her husband, Bill, of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren, Sarah Ann Noland, Laura N. Wallin and her husband, Stewart, Emily N. Hudson and her husband, Jason, Rebecca Noland, and Tom, Jonathan, and Sam Palmer; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. and Reverend L. Wilson Strickhausen officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bo Medford, Jimmy and Dan Swift, Adolpho Mendola, Ricky Boyd, and David Oh. A special honorary pallbearer, John Medford as well as serving honorary pallbearers will be the Waynesville Rotary Club and former classmates, Dr. Joe Howell, Joe Hipps, Jerome Boyd, Bob Setzer, Reverend Wayne Willet, and Alan Boone. Additional honorary pallbearers will be Linton's coffee buddies, Boyd Medford, J.R. Caldwell, Wayne Ferguson, David Noland, Charles Hannah, and Charles Leatherwood. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O.
