James D. Silver, Jr. "J.D.", age 72, went home to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late James Dimey and Fannie Sisk Silver. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arlie B. Silver and a sister, Millie Hoglen. J. D. was a very talented brick mason who was extremely dedicated, and a master craftsman of his work. His masonry work can be found throughout many prominent buildings in Western North Carolina. J. D. loved his family and especially adored his grandchildren, who he was extremely proud of. He will be remembered for being kind, compassionate, trustworthy and having a very strong work ethic. Above all, J. D. loved the Lord and was ready to meet his maker. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice P. Silver; two daughters, Lisa Silver Cody and her husband, Jeffrey, of Mars Hill and Darlene Silver of Canton; two sisters, Winnifred Leatherwood of Canton and Doris Clark and her husband, Ted Grooms, of Waynesville; a brother, Richard Silver of Candler; two grandchildren, James David Silver and Samantha Kaitlyn Messer both of Canton; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; a very special friend, Gene Skidmore as well as a host of special friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at High Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Terry Penland and Reverend Chris Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
