James Monroe "J. M." Trantham, age 69, of the Thickety Community passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2006 surrounded by his family at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Newton Jasper and Cannie Elizabeth Alexander Trantham. He retired from Champion International in 1999 with 45 years of service and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He loved to farm and tend his vegetable garden, which he shared with his friends and the community. He especially loved his cows. He had a heart of gold and was able to share his love of Jesus and be a witness to everyone he met. J. M. loved all of his family and friends very much and he will be missed by them greatly. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Donnie Mashburn Trantham, he is survived by a daughter, Annette Childers, of Hendersonville; three sons, Reverend Jimmy Trantham and his wife, Susan, of Clyde, Charles Trantham and his wife, Martha, of Cruso and Ricky Trantham and his wife, Judy, of Canton; two sisters, Clara Belle Lindsey of Waynesville and Lorene Pressley of Canton; three brothers, Oscar Trantham and his wife, Sarah, of TX, Loye Trantham and his wife, Shirley, of Waynesville and Grady Trantham and his wife, Margaret, of SC as well as nine grandchildren, Jason Trantham, April Chambers and her husband, Mike, James Trantham and his wife, Julie, Robin Trantham, Samantha Childers, Heather Gibson and her husband, Cody, Melody Trantham, Madison Trantham and Josh Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence, 148 Pasture Drive, off of Thickety Road in Canton. Pallbearers will be Jason, James and Joey Trantham, Don Hughey, Russell Robinson and Jason McClure. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Chambers, Cody Gibson, Josh Wilson, David Trantham, and J. L. Mashburn. Flowers are appreciated by the family.
