Jack Bocook

August 29, 1928 — November 4, 2008

Waynesville, Jack Alexander Bocook, age 80, of 87 Willow Road B12, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Autumn Care of Waynesville, NC A native of Buncombe County and former resident of Clearwater, Florida, he had resided in Haywood County, NC for the past 20 years. He was the son of the late James Arvle and Nelle Alexander Bocook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Thomas Bocook. Jack was a 1944 graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC and received his BS Degree in Engineering from North Carolina State University. He was a retired aerospace engineer for Honeywell International with 32 years service. Jack was a former civil engineer for the TVA, a engineer for Goodyear Aircraft, and former employee of Brunswick, Inc. He was also was a professional licensed engineer in the state of Florida. Jack was a talented saxophone player in the Big Band Era and a member of Carol Henry and the Buccaneers, a local swing band. He also was a member of the Asheville Community Band and Hendersonville Swing Band. Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis and traveling. He also was a member of the board of Haywood Arts Repertory Theatre, Haywood County Literacy Council and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Bryant "Skeeter" Bocook; one son, Jay Alexander Bocook and his wife, Jana, of Greenville, SC; two daughters, Jan Alison Hunter and her husband, William J., of Spartanburg, SC and Jennifer Lynn Bocook of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Bill Bocook and his wife, Patricia, of Palo Alto, CA and Jim Bocook of Anderson, SC; and two grandchildren, Daniel David Dredger of Phoenix, AZ and Jayson Alexander Bocook of Greenville, SC. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lynn Sorrells officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery Columbarium.
