Jack Cope

"1931 – 2016" Canton – Jack Cope, age 84, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Hub and Ada Cope Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and a niece. Jack was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict with eight years of military service and he retired from Champion International with 30 years of service. He was also owner of Randy's Wholesale Cars for many years. "Honest Jack" will be remembered as the leader of his family. His unconditional love, caring spirit, and selfless nature led him to touch many lives over the years. Jack loved traveling to the West, boating at Lake Douglas and Fontana, and spoiling his grandchildren. His family is most proud of his growing relationship with the Lord in the final years of his life. He is survived by two daughters, Mitzie Cope of Waynesville and Denise Finger and husband, Tommy, of Maggie Valley; one son, Randy Cope of Waynesville; one nephew, Danny Cope of Canton; two nieces, Teresa Burnette and Patty Rathbone, both of Canton; devoted companion for 24 years, Pat Parker of Canton; and three grandchildren, Holly Harmon Caldwell and husband, John, Patric Lachapelle, and Kurt Cope. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the daughter's residence, 214 Blackberry Lane in Maggie Valley from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. tonight. Following the burial, a celebration of life reception will be held at the Colonial Theater Annex Building from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Haywood Health Care Foundation (Hospice in memo line), c/o The Homestead, 127 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
