Jack Howell

Waynesville, Jack Roger Howell went home to be with the Lord in the arms of angels on February 20, 2011 unexpectedly at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Waynesville on August 12, 1927 and resided most of his life in Buncombe and Haywood Counties. He was son of the late Mark Roger Howell and Reta Stamey Howell and also preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Clark Howell; brothers, Donald June, Mark Eugene; and one sister, Betty Howell Holcombe. He was an abundantly talented man who left behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for his family. He was a gentleman and a strong man who never met a problem he couldn't face. Jack was a self-employed businessman and entrepreneur. His main interest was his family. His other interests included politics, nature, football, professional car racing, and building construction. He was a great example of what a man should be and he will be deeply missed by our family every day for the rest of our days. He is survived by two loving daughters; Victoria Ann Howell of Waynesville and Linda June Howell of Chapel Hill. Also left to cherish his memory and character are his grandchildren; Steven Mark Hilton, Alison Brianna Hilton, and Mark Herschel Cox; great-grandchildren, Hannah Mikayla Hilton, Kimberly Brianna Hilton, Landon Jack Perry, who was blessed to share the same birthday; brother Lloyd Gerald Howell, as well as many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. www.wellsfuneralhome.com
