Jack Messer

Canton-Jack Wayne Messer, age 72, of 96 Little East Fork Road, died on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert and Addie Mae Phillips Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Merle Messer, who died in 2003; a son, Michael Messer; and a sister, Barbara Warren. He worked in the Shipping Department of Dayco Corporation and retired in 1997 with more than 40 years service. He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Wheatley and her husband, Mike, of Sylva; one son, Gary Messer and his wife, Cathy, of Canton; two sisters, Dorothy Inman of Canton and Libby Riddle and her husband, T.L., of the Bethel Community; five grandchildren, Derek, Robbie, and Tanner Messer, Michael Wheatley, and Crystal Britt; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Burial will follow at Sunburst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
