Jack Rutledge Hawkins, 91, of Candler died on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Aston Park Health Care following a period of declining health. A native of Buncombe County, he is the son of the late Mark and Jennieve Henson Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Arvella Phillips Hawkins in 2011 and three sisters, Viola Dean, Mary Shook and Barbara Ward.
Jack worked for BASF, Champion International and retired from Wilsonart. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and having fun with his coworkers. Always active in church, he was a former deacon and leader of the Royal Ambassadors for many years. Jack coached little league and was very active in the baseball program at Hominy Valley. In his younger years, Jack was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting rabbits with his beagles. Jack’s greatest accomplishment in life was his beautiful family.
He is survived by his children, Reugena Davis and her husband, Richard of Candler, Elaine Reagan and her husband, Ronald of Greensboro, Jackie Pace of Candler and son, Phillip Hawkins and his wife, Karen of Candler; sister, Lela Porche of TN; grandchildren, Shanelle Nichols, Todd Reagan (Amanda), Seth Reagan (Misty), Peri Coble (Justin), Heather Fox (Shannon), Andrew Davis (Jennifer), Nicholas Davis (Katy), Michael Pace (Kelly), Alec Pace, Mark Hawkins (Bethany), Kent Hawkins (Jillian) and great-grandchildren, Chase, Abby, Aaron, Emily, Brett, Trent, Jack, Triston, Alivia, Easton, Bryson, Brayden, Cameron, Matthew, Connor, Eli, Reagan, Brooklyn, Issac, Parker, Lydia, Kaida and Kenna. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Ridgeway Baptist Church, 525 Old US 19/23 Highway, Candler with Reverend Jack W. Collins and Reverend Ben Heise officiating. Private time for the family/relatives will be held from 1:30 -3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Cemetery.
