Jackie Lee Thompson Earwood of Asheville, N.C. passed away peacefully on May 2 at the age of 81 surrounded by her close family by her side. She was a native of Marshall, N.C. Jackie started her career as a nurse for Dr. Montgomery, then spent 20 years with Dr. Woodard Farmer and enjoyed her last 20 years with Dr. Gregory Grant. When she wasn't working, she loved spending time with her family. Jackie had the gift of taking caring of others and spent much of her life doing so, whether she was at work or in her family life. Jackie was and will always be admired for her strong, independent approach to life that allowed her to make an imprint on everyone that was a part of her life. She was a blessing to all of us that knew her and will continue to shine her light down from heaven as she is now an angel among us. She was also a devoted and loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin to a large family close and extended family. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Thompson and mother, Martha Deaver Thompson, stepdad John Wicker, baby sister Marsha Jo Thompson, grandson Steve Sorrells, son-in-law Jim Jones, and nieces Vickie Ann and Judy Smith. She is survived by many, including her daughter Sandy Jones of Asheville, N.C. and her son, Rick and wife Erika Earwood of Mills River, N.C. As well as siblings, Barbra (Bobbie) McCrary, Tommy Moser, Helen Thompson, Jimmie Godzinski, Brenda Delacruz, John Wicker, Paula Wicker, Tony Wicker, Uncle Jack (Mickey) Deaver, Aunt Willa Deaver. Grandchildren Cynthia Sorrells of Asheville, N.C., Marti and husband Shane Bell of Hickory, N.C., Allison Jones of Asheville, N.C., Kyle Earwood and wife Leanna of Greensboro, N.C. and Luke Earwood of Mills River, N.C. Great grandchildren including Amaya Cunningham-Jones of Asheville, N.C. and Tanner and Justin Booth and Hunter Cell all of Hickory, N.C. The family would also like to thank Jackie's caregivers (two special ones, Debbie Brown and Denise Vanselow), the staff of Laurels of Greentree Ridge, and Hospice for her care.
Visitation is Thursday, May 5th from 6pm-8pm at Moore Funeral Home of Forest Lawn in Enka. Graveside funeral at Lewis Memorial Part on Beaverdam Rd. on Friday, May 6th at 2pm. Following the funeral, family and friends will gather for a celebration of Jackie's life at her sister, Jimmie's house at 117 Willow Oak Drive, Asheville 28805. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Laurels of Greentree Ridge and/or Hospice of Asheville.
