Jackie Griffin

Waynesville, Jackie William Griffin, age 62, died on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Haywood County most of his life. He was the son of the late Burt Griffin and Bell Scates Gentle and was raised by the late Doyle and Soni Rogers of Madison County, who provided a loving and caring home for Jackie. Jackie was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl G. Honeycutt and Hester Crew; a brother Will Griffin and several half brothers and sisters. Jackie loved his church and was a member of Rocky Branch Freewill Baptist he also loved to "whittle" and was known for his joking manner and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris Plemmons Griffin; one sister, Julie Shelton, of Landrum, SC; three half sisters, Geneva Cheek, of Weaverville, Blanch Edwards, of Mars Hill and Mary Etta Ewart, of Clyde; one brother, Gilbert "Bud" Griffin, of Leicester, NC; sister-in-law, Zula Griffin of Leicester, NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie Creasman and Reverend Frank Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. George Plemmons 304 Justice Drive, Clyde, NC 28721. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry McClure, David, Kevin, Brian Plemmons and Robert Plemmons, Jr. and Johnny Wyatt.
