Candler – Jackie Murray Lance, 82, passed away on Easter morning at Asheville Specialty Hospital.
Jackie was a native of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Lebo and Gladys Stamey Murray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, Charles Calvin Lance and second husband, James Doc “J.D.” Grooms of 6 years; two sisters, Phyllis M. Ensley and Martha Lance; and one brother, Ben Murray. Jackie was a 1958 graduate of Enka High School and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Marsha McCoy (Danny) of Candler and Carol Poplin (Brad) of Maryville, Tennessee; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Lance, Jr. (Kelly) of Candler and Nathan Lance (Laurin) of Inman, South Carolina; one sister, Bobbie Jane Whitted of Asheville; one brother, Reverend Jimmy Bruce Murray of Broadway, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Reverend Karl Zielke and Reverend Rick Gibson officiating. A private burial will follow, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service.
