Jackie Laney

Waynesville, Jackie Douglas Laney, age 69, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his residence. A native of Macon County, NC Jackie lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Ralph and Jessie White Laney and was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Laney and a granddaughter, McKenzie Gaston. Jackie was a loving, generous, kind man whose selfless nature led to many life-lasting friendships. He will be remembered for being a very loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Jackie attended Balsam Baptist Church. Jackie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wilma Laney; a daughter, Karla Demkow and her husband, Robert of Canton; brother, Billy Laney and his wife, Betty of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Brittany, Markus and Sydney Gaston and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Swanger and Reverend Ricky Wolf officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services. Inurnment will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
