Waynesville, Jackson R. Mintz, age 15, of 924 Old Balsam Road, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of John David and Lynn Burnette Mintz and was also preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Burnette and Don Mintz. A Freshman at Tuscola High School, he was very involved with the Tuscola Future Farmers of America. He loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and especially enjoyed swinging in front of his home on a swing he had made. He loved meeting new people and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Samantha Mintz of the home and Natasha Mintz of Clyde; two brothers, Joshua "Josh" Queen and his wife, Nichole, of Franklin and Jonathan Mintz of Waynesville; maternal grandmother, Rachel Burnette of Rutherfordton and paternal grandmother, Sallie Mintz of Canton; a niece and nephew, Cali and Myles Queen; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as a host of special friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2009 in the Tuscola High School Auditorium with Reverend Caroll Flack, Reverend Terry Rowland, and Reverend Brian Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan James, Billy Cagle, Nathan Gentry, Harold Surrett, Brett Frazier, and Ronnie Arrington. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Wyatt, Colby Frazier, Austin James, Michael Hyatt, Matt Pressley, Tyler Beck, Eric Williams, Tim Moody, and Steven Scruggs. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and Tuscola High School Auditorium will be open at 2:00 p.m. Sunday to begin receiving visitors for the service.
