Jacqueline Distasio

August 2, 1924 — October 12, 2009

Clyde, Jacqueline Rose Distasio, age 85, of Honeysuckle Street, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2009. A native of Burlington, Vermont, she had previously lived in Wallingford, CT, and had lived in Haywood County for the past 24 years. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Eva Penington. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Vincent Distasio, Sr., who died in 2005 and her eldest son, Pastor James Vincent Distasio, Jr. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved cooking and taking care of her family. After retirement, she and her husband, Jim, loved to travel, especially to Florida, Connecticut, and Lake George, NY. She is survived by two sons, William Distasio (Gail) of Meriden, CT and Keith Distasio (Kim) of Waterville, ME; one daughter, Joyce Banks (Jim) of Clyde; one brother, William Haggett, of Pinehurst, NC; 12 grandchildren, Leslie Jones (Stephanie), Christopher Jones (Cynthia), Shelli Coggins (Ryan), Anthony, Michael, Alicia, Lori, William, and Shanon Distasio, Vincent Distasio (Darlene), James Distasio Randall (Tammy), and Angela Picirillo (Frank); and 24 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at New Covenant Church with Reverend Nick Honerkamp officiating. Church is located at 767 Lee Road, Clyde, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058
