James Barefoot

December 6, 1913 — August 28, 2004

Canton - James "Jake" Wilson Barefoot, age 90, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native of Johnston County, NC and had lived in Haywood County since 1936 and was the son of the late James Bert and Flonnie May Stewart Barefoot. He retired from Champion International with 40 years of service and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. He was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mabel McCurry Barefoot of Canton, he is survived by a son, Jim Barefoot and his wife, Linda, of Candler; two granddaughters, Julia Barefoot of Greensboro and Renee Barefoot of Candler. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Carroll Lindsey and Reverend Neil Haynes officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veteran's Council. The family will receive friends following the service at the family cabin in Cruso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O.
