James Bass

March 29, 1925 — August 29, 2002

Garner- James E. "Jimmy" Bass- 77, of 1307 Frederick Road- died Thursday, August 29, 2002 after a brief illness.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Ralph E. Bass and Annie Russell Bass. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Loretta B. Harris.

He was a retired employee of CP&L with 38 years of service and he served in the Pacific during WWII with the 13th Air Force 70th Bomb Squadron on a B-25 Bomber. Jimmy flew 26 missions including the longest mission flown by a medium bomber.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marie Fish Bass; two sisters, Geraldine B. Davis and Betty B. Shattuck and her husband, Dr. Phil Shattuck, all of Asheville.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00a. m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend William O. Henson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lineburger Comprehensive Cancer Center, UNC, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 or to Hospice of Wake Co., 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
