James Bevell

August 14, 1931 — June 9, 2011

Waynesville, James "Jim" Darrell Bevell, age 79, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of Charleston, West Virginia, he had previously lived in Lake Worth, Florida before moving to Haywood County six years ago. He was the son of the late Roy and Gladys Marie Kessinger Bevell and was also preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Tobi Fagant; two brothers; and one sister. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. Retired from Arrowhead Attorney Services, he was a private detective. Jim was the Quartermaster/Adjutant of the local VFW Post 5202, where he and his wife were active members. He was a member of the Church of Israel. He was also an extremely talented musician who wrote his own music and who was also the member of a band named the "Country Rogues." Jim will be remembered for his loving spirit and wonderful sense of humor, as he was always telling jokes. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Bevell; two sons, James D. Bevell, Jr. and his wife, Allison, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Roy Bevell and his wife, Veronica, of Hope Sound, Florida; three daughters, Kim Bomberger and her husband, Hans of Jacksonville, Florida, Jamie Storiale and her husband, Mike, of Parker, Colorado, and Victoria Romano and her husband, John, of Placitas, New Mexico; two sisters, Norma Hall and her husband, Jim, of Charleston, West Virginia and Anita Brown and her husband, Tom, of Absecon, New Jersey; twelve grandchildren and his special granddaughter, Khristina Tomlin; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his loving bird, "Rosie." A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Chaplain Bob Sager and Bill Carrbaugh officiating. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 5202 Building Fund, 216 Miller Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
