James Carlson

Maggie Valley, NC--James Joseph Carlson, age 75, native of Bloomington, IL died peacefully Sunday evening. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley, along with his seven children and their spouses Matthew (Diane) Carlson, Jamie (Patrick) Flanagan, Stacey (Sumpter) Daniel, Shannon (Joe) Polak, Paul (Leanne) Carlson, Theresa Carlson, Mary Claire (Michael) McGarity, and his 25 loving grandchildren. Mr. Carlson was an alumni of The University of Illinois and was employed for many years in both the Atlanta and Chicago areas by GTE Automatic Electric. He later managed PalmettoNet in Rock Hill, SC before retiring in Maggie Valley, NC. Jim & Shirley were faithful parishioners of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. Of all of his many accomplishments in life, Jim was most proud of his large family and his many, many dear friends. He was truly blessed by God and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. A memorial Mass will be offered for Jim on Thursday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley to be officiated by Fr. Frank Doyle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Margaret's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1359, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.
