James Cogburn, Jr

James Edward "Eddie" Cogburn, Jr., age 80, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at his residence. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, he was a son of the late James Edward and Frieda Harrison Cogburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marrietta B. Cogburn, who died on October 17, 2010 and his maternal grandparents, Henry B. and Maggie Payne Harrison. Eddie was an Eagle Scout and a longtime member and past president of the Canton Lions Club. He also coached baseball. Eddie was also a member of the Gideon's East Haywood Camp. On any given Sunday, you could find Eddie in front of the television watching his favorite sport, golf. Eddie was a United States Navy veteran having served in the Korean conflict. He retired from Champion International in 1993 with 37 years of service and owned and operated Cogburn Realty for 34 years. He is survived by a son, Jimmy Cogburn and his wife, Bobbye, of Canton; one daughter, Kathy C. Johnson of Canton; one brother, Randy Cogburn and his wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren, Stacey and Kendra Johnson; and two step- grandchildren, Luke Smith and Staff Sgt. Mike Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
