Waynesville, James Albert "Bert" Coley, age 71, of 1157 South Main Street, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Leet Garnett and Nora Myers Coley and was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Imogene Mintz and one brother, Leet Coley, Jr. Bert was a master craftsman and handcrafted electric guitars as well as bows and arrows. He was also a talented artist and was known for painting beautiful pictures. Bert loved working outside gardening and landscaping and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Coley; one daughter, Jamie Ann Coley, of Ponce, Puerto Rico; one stepson, David Faulkner, of Waynesville; four sisters, Edna Mullinax and her husband, James, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, Frances Strickland and her husband, LeeRoy, of Clyde, and Vivian Surrett and her husband, Roger, and Teresa Coley, all of Waynesville; and two brothers, John Coley, Sr. and his wife, Betty, of Asheville and Wayne Coley of Lancaster, South Carolina. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
