Waynesville, James Robert "Dink" Cook, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Memorial Campus. He was the son of the late Hob and Dora Russell Cook and was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Cook, who died in 2005, and three brothers, Hoyt, Boyce, and Buddy. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Champion International in 1994. "Dink" loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church. He was an avid fly fisherman and when he wasn't fishing the local streams, "Dink" was cheering for the Atlanta Braves or the Tuscola Baseball and Football Teams. He is survived by his daughter, Monica Ferguson and her husband, John; two grandchildren, Eli and Sarah Ruby Ferguson; a special friend, Betty Ray; one brother, Charles Cook and his wife, Patsy; and his best friend and fishing buddy, Earl Rogers, all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John H. Swanger, III officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be the Tuscola Varsity Baseball Team. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tuscola Baseball Team, 564 Tuscola School Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
