Waynesville, James Bunyan Cothran, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014 after a long illness. A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Berry Erskine and Daisy Thompson Cothran and was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and later retired from the Federal Highway Administration with 31-years service. James loved to vacation at the beach with his family and enjoyed reading about the Civil War and World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Cothran; a daughter, Jamie Cothran and fiancé, Michael Parmer, of Lincolnton, North Carolina; one grandchild, Jordan Allen; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his precious cats, Kit Kat and Kassie. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
