James David Gladden

James David Gladden, born on February 13, 1950, a native of Shelby, NC, passed away on August 29, 2024. He was 74 years old. He was the son of the late James & Clara Gladden.

David’s early passion for photography paved the way for a life dedicated to capturing moments and memories. He served as a State Trooper to the North Carolina Highway Patrol for 30 years, a role he took great pride in until his retirement in 2001. His commitment to public service and the safety of his community marked him as a respected figure in law enforcement.

Beyond his professional life, David cherished his time spent in nature, sharing many joyful moments horseback riding with his father and his son. This love for the outdoors extended into a dedication to woodworking, where he crafted everything from rabbit boxes to barns. His deep affection for dogs was also evident, as he spent countless hours training and exercising his pets, further enriching his life and the lives of those around him.

David was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Canton, where he found great fulfillment in his faith, and support from his church family.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Jane Hardin Gladden; his daughter, April Gladden; his son, Ed Gladden (Melissa); and his brother, Phillip Gladden (Ruth).
