James Richard "Dick" Ensley, 89, of Candler, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Clyde, he was the son of the late Thomas Spurgeon Ensley and Nancy Robinson Ensley. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II, serving as an engineer gunner on a B24. For over 40 years, he worked at American Enka/BASF as a mechanical engineer, overseeing all construction at Enka, Lowland and Clemson. He was dedicated and well respected, expecting the best of everyone. An avid fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Montmorenci United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, a Scout Master, and Mason.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elaine Alice Ensley and granddaughter, Michelle Lee Ensley.
Surviving him is his son, Thomas Ensley and daughter-in-law Vickie Ensley of Candler; a daughter, Sharon Gates and son-in-law, Robert Gates of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Anniece Banks and Jason Ensley; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Raper and Elizabeth Marr, both of Haywood County.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, December 10th in Chapel of Faith, Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.
