Clyde, James Marion Gladden, age 84, of 180 Percy Way, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Skyland Care Center in Sylva. Born the son of the late Thomas Marion and Ethel Camp Gladden, he had lived most of his life in Cleveland County but resided in Haywood County for the past five years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Elmer Gladden and two sisters, Rebecca Champion and Evelyn Gladden. He worked in plumbing and construction most of his life and was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church. Jim was an avid horseback-rider. Having discovered horseback riding late in his life, it enabled Jim to share many great times and also provided many fond memories for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Clara Kivett Gladden; two sons, David Gladden and his wife, Jane, of Clyde and Phillip Gladden and his wife, Ruth, of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Ed Gladden and his wife, Melissa, of Waynesville and April Gladden of Bradenton, Florida; and special friends, Cindy King of Piney Flats, Tennessee, Winter Huff of Somerset, Kentucky, J.G. Howie and C.C. Bridges of Cleveland County. No services will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice or to Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church, 1128 Max Patch Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
