James Grant, Jr.

May 31, 1944 — September 24, 2014

Clyde, James Robert "J.R." Grant Jr., age 70, of Glenwood Drive, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Robert Grant and Edna Mae Roberts and was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Conner. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Era and an employee of Champion International for 30 years. While camping, J.R. loved trout fishing the creeks at Indian Creek Campground and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. J.R. is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jean Arrington Grant; a son, Nathan Grant of Waynesville; step-sons, Jeremy Reynolds and wife, Rosandra, of Pearland, Texas and James Reynolds and his wife, Rebecca of Charlotte; brother, Michael D. Grant and his wife, Cathie, of Valdosta, Georgia; aunt, Smoky Jones; seven grandchildren, Josh, Reese, Hannah, Olivia, Lauren, Emilie, and Meghan; and three nephews, Lee, Kalen, and Dr. Devin Grant. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Woodland Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Davis, officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 980, P.O. Box 974, Clyde, NC 28721.
