Clyde, James "Jim" Grasty, age 75, of Clark Cemetery Road, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his residence. He was born and lived most of his life in Haywood County and was the son of the late Loyd and Clarine Hendricks Grasty. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Eugene, and Bill Grasty and was a US Army veteran having served during the time of the Korean Conflict. Jim retired from Dayco and also did small engine repairs. He was a member of Rockwood United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Christine Stamey Grasty; two sons, Roger Keener and his wife, Donna, of Hampton, Florida and James S. Grasty, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Waynesville; one daughter, Dawn Grasty of Durham; a sister, Catherine Gaddis, of Waynesville; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Miller and Reverend Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald and Jimmy Keener, Terry Grasty, Steve Paradis, Chris Maynor, and Mike Grasty. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rockwood United Methodist Church, 288 Crabtree Mountain Road, Canton, NC 28716.
