James Hall, Sr.

Asheville- James Marlin Hall, Sr. - age 82 went peacefully to be at home with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Aston Park Health Care Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Haywood County but had resided in Buncombe County for the rest of his life. He was a son of the late Marlin and Annie Mae Franklin Hall. He was preceded in death by a sister, Artie Mae Hall Kirby and a brother, Charles Marlin Hall. Mr. Hall retired from Champion International Paper as scales clerk in 1988 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where he served as an usher and worked on all of the mechanical needs for the church bus ministry. He loved to farm and enjoyed camping and fishing after he retired. Mr. Hall was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. A special thanks is given to the ECRC of the VA Hospital, Aston Park Health Care Center and to Mountain Area Hospice. He is survived by his wife Polly Ann Young Hall; two daughters, Janet Marlene Hall and her husband James Blalock of Pickens, SC and Sherry Lynn Hall of Asheville; one son, James Marlin Hall, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Asheville; three sisters, Girtrue Talley of Etowah, Cathleen Shepherd of Canton and Elaine Winfrey of Texas; two brothers, Tom and C.M. Hall both of Canton; three grandchildren, Morgan Ashley, Hunter Marlin and Taylor Beverly Hall and a special relative, Kim. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 229 Bent Creek Ranch Road in Asheville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338. Asheville, NC 28813.
