James Edward "Ed" Henderson, age 75, died Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Robert and Mollie King Henderson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Calvin Carroll, Buddy Joe, and Roy Henderson. He retired from Canton Hardwood Company with 33 years of service. Ed was a CB radio operator known by the handle of "The Gray Ghost". He was a United States Navy veteran serving in Korea and was the last surviving member of "Operation Wig Wam" which was a mission to test one of America's first nuclear bombs in the Pacific. In addition to his wife of 49 years, Glenna Mull Henderson, he is survived by two daughters, Teresa Heisler and her husband, Randy, and Dorothy Henderson all of Canton; two sons, James Henderson, Jr., and his wife, Darla, of Canton and Gary Henderson and his fiancé, Donna, of Candler; three sisters Mary Blalock of Canton, Glenda Gravatt of Clyde, and Linda Mason and her husband, Charles, of Canton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating with military honors conducted by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
