Waynesville, James Edward Hendricks, age 94, of Ratcliffe Cove, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Brian Center. A native of Six Mile, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Raymond and Birta Mae Parrott Hendricks. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Lawrence, Raymond, Jr., and Elton Hendricks and two sisters, Vera Reid and Onetia Mathis. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1978 after 36 years from Dayco where he worked in the Shipping Department. James loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. After retirement, he also enjoyed gardening and working puzzles. He appreciated his good neighbors and caregivers, Bobby Kelly, Rachel Kinsland, Doris Wyatt, and Karen Clark and was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pauline Reid Hendricks; two sons, Carrol Hendricks and his wife, Pauline and Reid Hendricks, of Waynesville; two sisters, Rebecca Singleton and her husband, Charles, of Greenville, South Carolina and Helen Orr of Pickens, South Carolina; three brothers, Franklin and Vando Hendricks and his wife, Betty of Six Mile, and Merl Hendricks and his wife, Martha, of Pickens; one granddaughter, Diane Robinson; and one great granddaughter, Kaylee Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
