James Holcombe

James Robert "Jimmy" Holcombe, age 69, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Henry and Daisy Miller Holcombe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Davis; six brothers, Carroll, Roger, Roy, Alvin, Ray, and Hoyle Holcombe, and baby twins. Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley where he served as deacon, chairman of the deacon board, Sunday School teacher, and member of various committees. He was also a member of the Sojourners Quartet. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianna Bradshaw Holcombe of Maggie Valley; one daughter, Misty Holcombe Chandler and her husband, Kenny, of Canton; one grandson, Cade Mason Chandler; honorary family members, Clint Watkins, Carol Ray Launer and her husband, Ed, Erica Ray, Kolten Davis Hunt, James Edwin Launer, and Randy Evans; four sisters, Ellen Warren of Canton, Lucille Parham of Asheville, Mary Webb of Swannanoa, and Shirley Rogers of Waynesville; one brother, Charles Holcombe of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ricky Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
