James Jaynes

August 24, 1937 — April 7, 2013

Waynesville, James T. "J.T." Jaynes, age 75, of Whispering Winds Road, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Malcome and Pearl Howell Jaynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Fisher Jaynes; two sons, Ricky and Chris; a brother, Bill; and one sister, Juanita. "J.T." was a US Navy veteran and traveled all over the world including a tour of duty at the South Pole. "J.T." loved his antique tractors and enjoyed photography. He was known for his delicious chocolate covered cherries, homemade ice cream, and signature stack cake. "J.T." was of Baptist faith and loved his family deeply. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his surrogate daughter, Deborah Jackson (E.T.) of Maggie Valley; three sisters, Genevieve Russell and Patricia Evans, of Waynesville and Kathleen Green (Kenneth) of the Fines Creek Community; three brothers, Carroll Jaynes (Joyce) of the White Oak Community, Jack Jaynes (Peggy) and Mike Jaynes of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Jessica Shaffstall (Michael) and Jennifer and Kendra Jackson; three great grandchildren, Kaelan, Kyla, and Lorelai; a special friend and companion, Lib Wright, and her family; as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating. Memorials may be made to MedWest Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
