James Walter Jenkins, Jr.

Weaverville, James Walter Jenkins, Jr., age 79, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at his residence.

A native of Haywood County, James was a son of the late James Walter Jenkins, Sr. and Grace Rathbone Jenkins.  In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia "Jean" Jenkins; a grandson, Eric Bryant, and brother, Johnny Jenkins.  James was an insurance claims adjuster for over 30 years.  Upon retirement, James volunteered with the school system to assist third graders with reading, a project he held dear to his heart.  He also enjoyed traveling the United States with his grandson, seeing all the amazing sights across the country.  James cherished the time he spent visiting with his family and will be greatly missed. 

James is survived by his daughters, Cindy Bryant and her husband, Edward, of Lake Junaluska, and Janna Jenkins, of Weaverville; a beloved grandson, Brian West, of Weaverville; three sisters, Carolyn Haney, and husband, Mike, Virginia “Ginny” Underwood, and her husband, James, and Catherine Jaynes and her husband, John; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Pastor Millard Grant officiating.
