James Jennings

Waynesville, James Cecil "J.C." Jennings, Sr., age 88, of 160 Hillside Terrace Drive, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his residence. A native of Orangeburg, SC, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Marion Bissell and Betty Elizabeth Smoak Jennings and was also preceded in death by a son, Jim Jennings and eight brothers and sisters. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He retired in 1988 from Belk Hudson as a manager and was a member of the Waynesville Lions Club. "J.C." was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville and a member of the Asbury-Wesley Sunday-School Class. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joanna Jennings; three sons, Gary Jennings and his wife, Doris, of Rock Hill, SC, Terry Jennings and his wife, Lisa, of Hickory, and Tom Jennings and his wife, Cathy, of Hendersonville; one brother, Lindo Jennings and his wife, Henrietta, of Orangeburg, SC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Van Cleave, and Jody, Josh, and Laurin Jennings. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the vestibule of the church.
