James Laney

James E. Laney, 62, of Candler, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at John F. Keever Solace Center, after an extended battle of cancer. A native of Haywood County and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of James Oscar Laney and Emma Dee Henson Laney. He was employed at Champion International and Blue Ridge Paper Products for 40 years. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. He loved to fish and spend time at Lake Hiawassee. Any sport was a big part of his life. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of 29 years, Judy Dianne Chester Laney; one son, Erin Patrick Laney of Candler and fiancee , Tara; one sister , Donna Pearson and husband, Tim, of Burke County; two brothers, Gary B. Laney and wife, Chris, and John Laney and wife Debbie, all of Candler; and two granddaughters, MacKenzie and Averie. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack W. Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgeway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the Laney residence.
