Waynesville-James Lewis "Byrd" Morrow, age 81, of the Jonathan Creek Community, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. A native and life long resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Vinson A. and Grace McElroy Morrow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Morrow, and a sister, Phyllis Medford. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II where he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a farmer, logger, carpenter, and was owner of Morrow's Mobile Home Park. He taught Sunday School at Cove Creek Baptist Church where he was a member and also served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Byrd loved trout fishing, everything outdoors, and working with the Baptist Men's Building Program. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eunice Rose Morrow; one daughter, Joan Morrow Breece and her husband, James of Valparaiso, Indiana and one son, Danny Morrow and his wife, Kate Ketner Morrow, of Willis, Texas; four grandchildren, Rose Bak and her husband, John, Janet Breece, Ben and Michael Morrow; two great grandchildren, Amanda and Haley Bak; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Friday prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
