Waynesville-James Manuel ''Jim'' King, age 80 of Ratcliff Cove Road, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Horace and Essie King. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Novella King. Mr. King was a self-employed trucker and mechanic and was an avid race fan.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Myrtle Smith King of Waynesville, four daughters; Shirley Coward, Mary Bishop and Brenda Woody all of Waynesville, Sue Trantham of Canton, two sons, Allen "Doc" King and Roger "Dobin" King both of Waynesville, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend T. M. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
