James Medford

James Blaine Medford, age 82, of Stamey Cove, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late James A. and Roberta Mehaffey Medford. He retired from Champion International with 41 years of service. In addition, Blaine loved being outdoors and raising beef cattle. He was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Shelton Medford; two sons, Jim Medford and his wife, Debbie, of Charlotte, and Justin Medford and his wife, Karen, of Stamey Cove; one sister, Marilyn Clark of Asheville; and one grandson, Jared Medford. Blaine loved life and lived it to the fullest. He never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his smiles, handshakes, quick humor, and mischievous nature. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend James Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to offer special thanks to his caregivers at Silver Bluff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Suite 4-B, Staten Island, NY 10305 or to a charity of one's choice.
