James Messer, Jr.

Waynesville, James Harrison "Bee" Messer, Jr., age, 82, passed away on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Harrison Messer, Sr. and Printha Ann Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Earnest, Oscar, John, Tom and David Messer; two sisters, Ethel Lillian Messer and Bonnie Woods; a grandson, Dustin Wilkes. James was a previous employee of B.A.S.F. retiring in 1999. He was a member and Deacon of Rocky Branch Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening. James traveled with his wife and her sisters, The Inman Family for many years and helped drive the bus and carry sound equipment.

James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy Inman Messer; son, James Tillman Messer (Mary Jane), of Waynesville; three sisters, Jane Curtis (Joseph), of Waynesville, Hattie Garland (Jim), of Candler, Bobbie Parker (Boyd), of Waynesville; one brother, Verlin Messer (Patsy), of Waynesville; three grandchildren, James Michael Messer, Matthew Charles Messer, and Khrystyne Wilkes; two great-grandchildren, Karsyn Jane Messer and Dalton Greyson Pressley; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Heatherly, Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
