Waynesville, James David Mitchell, age 78, of 37 Laramie Lane, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Mountain Trace in Sylva. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John and Rosa Lee Bramlett Mitchell. He was a veteran sergeant of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. James was employed as a printer for 35 years at the Waynesville Mountaineer. He was a hardworking family man and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Grace Patton Mitchell; one daughter, Jacqueline Goforth and her husband, Steve, of Waynesville; two sons, Gary Mitchell and his wife, Janie, of Greenville, South Carolina and John Mitchell and his wife, Gloria, of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Lloyd Allen officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202, American Legion Post 47, and the National Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
