James Andrew "Bill" Morris, age 83, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Roy N. and Bessie Jenkins Morris. He retired from Champion International in 1988 with 44 years of service. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton and a United States Army veteran. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Tar Heels basketball. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Leatherwood Morris; a son, James "Jimmy" Morris of Canton; two daughters, Darlene Shipman and Janice Plemmons both of Canton; four grandchildren, Kristie Rhinehart, Andy Plemmons, Veronica Barton, and Savannah Morris; and four great-grandchildren, Dakota Scott and Skyler McMillan, and Bethany and Nicholas Barton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend David Ortigoza officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
