James Palmer

June 13, 1937 — July 4, 2013

Waynesville, James Robert "Bob" Palmer, age 76, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Memorial Campus Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Charlie Judson and Wilda McElroy Palmer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Jud, Sam, Wayne and Neil Palmer. He retired from Dayco with 30 years of service. Bob was honorary mayor of Cataloochee Valley, where he enjoyed camping and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially getting to play Santa Claus at Christmas. His boy's were his pride and joy. Bob was also a Dale Earnhardt and an avid Tuscola Football fan. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sarah Hyatt Palmer; four sons, Robert "Greg" Palmer of Waynesville; James "Jimbo" Palmer and his wife, Sherri, of Waynesville; Jeffery Alan Palmer and his wife, Polly, of Waynesville and Chase Landon Palmer and his wife, Jessica, of Waynesville; two sisters, Edith Mull of Waynesville and Carolyn Robinson of Canton; seven grandchildren, Nan, Cassie, Mike, Tyler, Dustin, Chris and Mike and five great-grandchildren, Chloé, Peyton, Oliviah, Norah and Elainah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Queen officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
