Candler-James Paul King, age 85, of 44 Grassy View Road Died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a son of the late R. W. and Ora Young King . He was married to the late Susan Lucinda Williams King who died in 1991 and was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ethel Morgan and Reva Stockton and a brother, T. L. "Lane" King. He was a retired self-employed work bus driver to American Enka with 34 years of service. He was a United States Army Staff Sergeant Veteran of World War II serving in England and was also a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by one daughter, Paula Taylor and her husband Bruce of Candler, one sister, Dorothy Conner of Candler, 2 grandchildren, Kathy Taylor and Keith Taylor and his wife Anita, and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Taylor, all of Candler. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Candler. Reverend Jack W. Collins and Reverend Steve Smith will officiate. Military graveside will be conducted by the Buncombe Co. Veterans Council. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2312 Smokey Park Hwy, Candler, NC 28715, Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 525 Old US 19-23 Hwy, Candler, NC 28715 or Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center, P.O. Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
