James William Prewitt, 86, of Barnardsville, passed away on Saturday, June 18. A native of Winchester, KY, he was a son of the late Hairm Q. and Ida Belle Dermy Prewitt. Prior to moving to Barnardsville in 1979, he had been a resident of York County, VA. James served in the US Army for 20 years, retiring as a Corporal, and in the Navy for over 3 years. He was also retired from the Newport News shipyard.
James was a member of Carsons Missionary Baptist Church, lifetime member of the American Ex-POW's and served as Commander-in-Chief of the local chapter for 19 years, VFW #3040 of Asheville, American Legion of Asheville and Disabled American Veterans of Asheville. James lived 'one day at a time' and was a member of AA.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Ballew Prewitt; children, Jeannie Jones of Virginia, Elizabeth Ann Roberts of North Carolina, Kathy Prewitt of North Carolina, James D. Prewitt of North Carolina; step-children, Penny Fullbright of Barnardsville and Eric Ballew of the home; brother, Hairm Q. Prewitt, Jr. and 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21st in the Chapel of Faith at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
